Does not support free access (as it claims) to US print edition subscribers
A six month subscription is $26.99, while a twelve month subscription is $59.99. Hmmmm . . . seems to me Id get the 6 month subscription, then let it renew in 6 months (for a total of 12 months), and Id pay only $53.98 (saving $6.01 over the "great deal" on the annual sub). Lordy, and we all thought the British had some brains.
Wrote to confirm and this is the response ------ Thank you for your email. Unfortunately access to our iPad app is not currently free to our subscribers within the US, due to access issues. We are working to make this possible but do not have a specific date which I can pass onto you at present. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. -------- This should be noted on iTunes and in the magazine. Of course, should I pay, I can access the content. This therefore seems more like a (bad) business decision than a rights issue. And it certainly been managed badly.
As a subscriber and fan of the print edition, I was eager to try out this ap. Unfortunately, there is only an unresponsive window for print subscribers to register. Dont waste your time or your money on this, it doesnt function!
I say exactly the same as the first review.
Claims to give free access to print subscribers, but US subscriber numbers dont seem to work. And its months later, and they still dont work. And as noted in July, the math is off, the 1 year sub being more than twice the 6 month sub. Face it, these people really want to annoy their american market. And in the latest version, the link to even try to enter your subscription details seems broken. sheesh.
How do you get your money back
After not working for the first 6 months of my subscription, the App is now finally working - and I have to say beautifully - following the most recent update (although I had to delete and re-install the App). Its just a shame it took so long to fix the issue.
Well, after calling the UK, being passed on from person to person, they gave me a number to call on the US, only to find out that the contents of this app is not available to customers on the other side of the pond… What? Get with the program, guys! Disappointing to say the least.
Bought two issues. Never able to download them.
Love the integration of music and words
It has no competition in the music publication field. BBC Music is head and shoulders above the rest.
Great magazine. Terrible app. The crashes have been going on for a week. Fix already or give a refund!
I downloaded this app less than an hour ago and paid $6.99 for the October 2014 issue featuring Johannes Brahms. My iPad Air is running iOS 8.0.2. The download of the October issue took forever, but I was nonetheless looking forward to reading this issue. But this was not to be. A split second after I clicked on the issue to open it, the app takes me to the red BBC MUSIC screen, and then CRASHES 100%. I am totally unable to access even one page of the magazine online. I WANT MY MONEY RETURNED TO ME. You have ripped me off, whether intentionally or not. Does anyone know how I can get my $6.99 payment back from either Apple or BBC? (dated October 1, 2014)
What the hell? This is ridiculous. Please update and fix this...
I thought it would let me read a magazine for free, but it wont let me!
This a great mag but the app is a disaster. Since the latest update it keeps "forgetting" my subscription every time I open it and keeps randomly deleting the issues that I have previously downloaded. Which is especially a drag for this magazine because the files are large and take a long time to download. No problem once, but over and over is terrible. Cmon guys, get it right!
I love this magazine and the app. I just wish the main menu screen i.e. the home screen when one opens the app, could go landscape. Most of the time I hold my iPad Mini in landscape and it is how I read the magazine. The interactive features are fantastic.
BBC Music magazine is a top notch magazine for classical music providing excellent articles, recommendations and reviews across multiple classical music disciplines. The digital magazine is exemplary of how it should be done: it contains all that is in the print edition as well as very feature-rich multi media links to the various recordings that can be called up instantly from online sources, as well as embedded content that can be played within. I look forward to subscribing for many years.
For years now the support site has stated that "Unfortunately there is no free access to the digital editions as part of a print subscription. In the future we hope to offer this function so that you can upgrade your subscription to enjoy both editions." This app is useless to me until or unless they ever get this fixed in the U.S.
